​The Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) initiative in Miami-Dade implemented a variety of activities to address policy, systems and environmental change, in support to improve nutrition and physical activity among Miami-Dade County residents. There were eleven program goals focusing on capacity building, media outreach, physical activity, nutrition and screen time child care center standards, physical activity and nutrition in public schools, access to nutritious foods via convenience stores, farmer’s markets and community gardens, breastfeeding practices, active transportation and recreation, safe routes to schools, and worksite wellness.

Program Highlights​

Over 650 Child Care Centers and Child Care Family Programs were trained in the areas of nutrition and physical activity.

Over 1,700 child care center and child care family program employees were trained with an estimated 100,000 children benefiting from the program.

340 Child Care Centers had their menus revised to include healthier food and drink items.

Healthy vending machines were installed in 25 different park locations in Miami-Dade.

10 out of 14 birthing centers in Miami-Dade County worked to obtain the Baby-Friendly Designation and implemented a Worksite Lactation Policy, which potentially impacted and estimated 11,227 mothers.

The City of North Miami has installed 50 bicycle racks throughout the city and 20 bicycle parking signs; the City of Miami has installed 41 bicycle racks throughout the city and 21 in Miami-Dade County Parks.
